Circus Nursery Ideas: How to Create a Vintage Circus Kids Room

A circus nursery is playful without being loud. Think striped tents, carousel horses and twinkling stars, softened with warm vintage colours. Here is how to create a dreamy vintage circus kids room that still feels calm enough for naps.
1. Start with a soft colour palette
Classic circus red can feel intense in a small room. Choose a muted version instead: brick red, rust or berry, paired with cream, mustard and powder blue. Keep the walls light (warm white, soft blush or pale sage) and let the colour come from textiles and art.
2. Add one statement piece
A striped play tent, a wooden rocking horse or a scalloped canopy instantly sets the theme. One big piece is enough; the rest of the room can stay simple.
3. Hang illustrated circus prints
Wall art is the easiest way to bring the circus in. Our Little Circus prints feature a carousel horse, a party elephant, a hopping bunny and five more friends, each with its own vintage border. For bolder colours, the Grand Parade collection adds a zebra with a mouse rider, a trumpet penguin and a lion with his animal friends.
Tip: hang one large print above the crib and build a small gallery wall of two to four smaller prints next to the changing table or reading corner.
4. Mix patterns, but repeat colours
Stripes, checks and scallops all belong in a circus room. The trick is to repeat two or three colours across bedding, rugs and prints so the patterns feel connected rather than busy.
5. Keep it personal
A personalised letter poster with your child's initial and name ties the theme together and makes the room feel truly theirs.
6. Think about growing up
A vintage circus theme ages beautifully. Swap the crib for a big kid bed later and the prints, tent and rocking horse still fit right in.
